The Bearcats bounced back from Saturday’s disappointing loss by sweeping a CUNYAC doubleheader from John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Sunday afternoon at Bronx Community College baseball field.

The Bearcats won by the scores of 18-8 and 8-4 to improve their record to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in CUNYAC, while the Bloodhounds of John Jay College drop to 3-15 overall and 1-2 in CUNYAC.

Ryan McGuire won the opener by pitching a complete game with eight hits allowed and four strikeouts. He also helped himself at the plate by batting 2-4, with two runs scored and one RBI.

The Baruch offense erupted for a season-high 18 runs behind 16 total hits. They scored three runs in the second inning and eight more in the third for an early 11-0 advantage.

Richard Melendez led the team at the plate by batting 3-5, with four RBI. Peter Dinolfo (2-3, 2 RBI), David Chestnut (2-3, 2 RBI), Aldo Altamirano (2-5, 2 RBI), and Manuel Guerrero (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs) all had a big game for a truly team effort in the bounce-back win.

Joseph Murray (3 stolen bases) and Ronnie Rojas (5 stolen bases) scored four times each in the victory.

In the second game played under light drizzle conditions, the visiting Bloodhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. The Bearcats quickly responded with five runs in their very next at-bat in the bottom of the first inning and held the lead the rest of the way for the 8-4 conference victory.

Kellin Bliss pitched the complete game by allowing only two earned runs and striking out nine for his second pitching victory of the season. John Jay loaded the bases in their final at-bat looking to create another dramatic rally, but Bliss struck out the final batter to close out the victory.

Overall today, the Bearcats totaled 26 runs, 24 hits, and 23 stolen bases in the two wins.

The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, March 30, with a non-conference single game at Rutgers-Newark of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). First pitch at Newark Bears Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
