The baseball team defeated the Lightning of Lehman College, 16-7, in a CUNYAC single game on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.

The visiting Bearcats (11-15, 5-4 CUNYAC) were leading 8-7, but blew the game wide open in their top half of the seventh inning by scoring five runs to take a 13-7 advantage.

They held on to the victory as David Chestnut (9IP, 7H, 7K) pitched the complete game to help the Bearcats take two of three CUNYAC games this weekend from the Lightning (8-17,  3-9 CUNYAC).

Richard Melendez (5-6, double two RBI) and Jules Ryan Alonzo (3-4, double, two RBI) led the offensive effort in the win that helps the team clinch a playoff spot in the four-team CUNYAC Tournament scheduled for April 29 - May 1 at MCU Park (formerly Key Span) in Coney Island.

Thomas Daly smacked a homer in the third inning, while Manuel Guerrero, Aldo Altamirano and John Avona each finished with two hits.

The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, April 20, with a 4:00 pm non-conference home game against Manhattanville College at MCU Park.
