Late Run By Randolph Macon Defeats Bearcats (84-75)

The Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon College needed a late second half run to defeat the Bearcats, 84-75, in a first round game of the Randolph Macon Coaches Classic on Thursday night in Ashland, Virginia.

The Bearcats on Friday, December 30, at 5:00 pm, will next play in the consolation game against Kean University, which lost their first round game to Farmingdale State by the score of 77-60.

The visiting Bearcats and the Yellow Jackets were tied at halftime (35-35), and that continued into the second half with the two teams tied again at 43 with 14:21 left. From that point, the Yellow Jackets scored seven straight points to lead, 50-43, with 12:22 left.

They continued their momentum to build up their largest lead of 14 points (66-52) with just under eight minutes remaining. The Bearcats chipped away at the deficit but could only get as close as seven points in the final minute to suffer the loss.

Overall, the visiting Bearcats shot 49.2 percent (29-59). The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent (12-24) in the second half and finished the game shooting 53.8 percent (7-13) from 3-point range.


Chris Beauchamp led the Bearcats with 22 points (8-14 fg), while Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson scored 13 points (6-10 fg) and Fuat Yapar had 11 points and seven rebounds. Brian McMahon totaled eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots off the bench.
