10/16/2013 2:13:00 PM

The quarterfinals of the 2013 CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Women's Tennis Championship will get underway this weekend with the top teams hosting playoff matches.

The Bearcats, who finished in third place in the conference standings with a 5-2 record, will host the sixth place (2-5) Lightning of Lehman College on Sunday, October 20, at 12:00 pm at the Billie Jean King U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.

The winner of Sunday's quarterfinal will advance to the semifinal round on Tuesday, October 22, to play against second place Brooklyn or seventh place John Jay.

The overall winner of this year's championship will earn CUNYAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship Tournament scheduled for May 9-11, 2014.

Teams are seeded based upon final regular season standing. Per postseason rules, the first team to earn five points wins the match.

Despite the results next week, the women's tennis team will play for the first time a spring schedule in 2014 against Penn State-Abington (March 22), Brooklyn (March 29), and York (April 8).
