Box Score

Alicea Ulmer scored the winning basket with seven seconds left to lift the women's basketball team to a 58-57 non-conference home win over the Ospreys from Richard Stockton College on Monday night in the ARC Arena.

Outside of the first basket scored by the Ospreys, the Bearcats led throughout until the last 23 seconds of the game. They appeared comfortably ahead 56-49 with 2:12 left, but the Ospreys scored the next eight points in dramatic fashion to wipe away the advantage and lead 57-56 with 23 seconds left.

Following a timeout, the Bearcats took possession and went down the court seeking the win.

Iyana Abrams missed a jumper with 12 seconds left, but Ulmer grabbed the offensive rebound and went up for a layup that missed. Fortunately, she grabbed her own rebound and powered her way to score the winning layup with seven seconds remaining.

The Ospreys had the last shot, but missed to hand the Bearcats the exciting victory in a very busy night in the ARC that also featured a home senior night swim meet and the CUNYAC preseason volleyball coaches meeting.

The Bearcats controlled most of the play and shot 39.1 percent (24-for-61), compared to only 30.9 percent (17-for-55) by the Ospreys (6-8).

The visitors did manage to shot 22-of-24 from the free throw line to stay within reach all evening.

Ulmer recorded her fifth straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Abrams also finished with 14 points, a career-high eight assists and two steals.

Center
Ashika Kuruvilla had her finest game with six points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots, not to mention forcing a number of players to alter their shots.

Kristen Podlovits was also busy with nine points and six rebounds.

The women's basketball team will resume their CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday night in the Bronx with a 5:30 pm contest (live stats available) at Lehman College.
