The women's tennis team earned their fourth win of the season, defeating Purchase College 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Billie Jean King U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.
The Bearcats started strong, capturing two of the three doubles matches to secure the opening doubles point in the seven-point format. Aishika Yadav and Maria Calvo Prado teamed up for a 6-2 victory at first doubles, while Malika Khaknazarova and Margaret Kensinger posted a convincing 6-1 win at third doubles to give Baruch early momentum.
That success carried into singles play, where the Bearcats won four of the six contests to seal the overall team 5-2 victory. Lucia Herranz Sanchez won at second singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Yadav continued her outstanding play with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at the top flight. The victory marked Yadav's 36th career singles win — currently the third most in Baruch women's tennis history.
The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. match at the U.S. National Tennis Center against the Pratt Institute.
