Junior baseball pitcher Jesus Izarra has been voted the Baruch Athlete of the Month for April/May 2011. The months are combined, due to the limited amount of athletic contests in May.
Izarra finished the season strong by winning four of his last six starts and being named the 2011 CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year.
The monthly recognition award is voted on by the athletic department staff. For a complete list of highlights, please read below.
* Pitched a complete game shutout, going 7.0 innings, striking out eight batters in a conference win versus CCNY (4/3).
* Pitched another complete game, going 7.0 inning, striking out career-high 14 batters, in an 8-3 road win at Lehman (4/16).
* Pitched the complete again in a pitcher’s duel versus CSI’s ace by striking out three batters in a 1-0 home victory at MCU Park (4/22).
* Struck out six batters in 8 innings in getting the win and preventing CUNYAC Tournament elimination versus CCNY (4/29).
* On short rest, he pitched 9.2 innings, surrendering no earned runs in a tough CUNYAC game seven final loss against CSI (5/3).
* For the months of April and May, Jesus recorded four wins in six starts with 43.0 innings pitched, 34 strikeouts and a 2.30 earned run average.
* Named the CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year.
