Second Half Rally Falls Short Versus York

York College had four players in double-digit scoring to defeat the visiting Bearcats, 66-55, on Thursday night in Queens. 

York led throughout the encounter and out-rebounded the visiting Bearcats, 48-28, to clinch their third straight victory.

The Bearcats did make a run to get as close as three (42-39) on a 3-pointer by Tammer Farid (Woodside, NY/Stuyvesant) with 10:19 remaining, but York responded to the rally with five straight points to go back up, 47-39. Baruch could not get the lead under five the rest of the game.  

Marcel Esonwune (Nigeria/Marist Brothers) led York with a double-double of 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots, while Omari Phipps (Laurelton,NY/St. Johns Prep) scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Farid led the Bearcats with 13 points, via three 3-pointers, while George Kunkel grabbed 13 rebounds and scored eight points. 

The bench also contributed, especially during the second half rally, behind the efforts of Eric Quintero (New York, NY/John Adams) and William Falkenhainer (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) with six points each.

The men’s basketball team will return to action this Saturday in the ARC Arena with a non-conference home game against Kean University from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
