Box Score

The men’s basketball team earned a big conference road victory on Friday night by defeating Lehman College, 72-59, in a battle of CUNYAC North Division leaders at the Apex Center in the Bronx.

The Lightning of Lehman College scored the opening basket of the game, but the Bearcats would never trail again the rest of the way to raise their record to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in CUNYAC. Lehman drops to 11-5 and 4-1 in CUNYAC.

The Bearcats took control early in the first half by connecting on seven 3-pointers to build a 40-32 halftime advantage.

They continued to maintain a comfortable six-to-eight point lead during the second half, but the Lightning made a late run in front of the excited home crowd to get as close as 61-58 on a lay up by Michael Waite with 2:56 remaining.

However, despite very intense defensive pressure by Lehman on Baruch’s next possession, Mike Dietz cleverly sent a pass to George Kunkel to score an easy lay up to bring the lead back to five points (63-58).

That key lay up cut Lehman’s growing momentum at that time, as Baruch would score nine of the final 10 points of the game to notch the victory.

Lionel Hilaire led the visiting Bearcats with a game-high 20 points (9-9 in free throws), while Tammer Farid scored 13 points.

Mike Dietz finished with nine points, six rebounds and three steals. George Kunkel grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and also dished out four assists.

Alen Redzic led Lehman College with 14 points and eight rebounds. Lehman attempted 18 more total shots in the game, but struggled all evening shooting 32 percent (22-68).
