Major Rally Falls Short Against Ramapo (24-30, 23-30, 30-28, 30-26, 15-17)

The men’s volleyball team lost a tough five-set encounter to #9-ranked Ramapo College in a thrilling home match on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The visiting Road Runners quickly jumped out by winning the opening two sets (30-24, 30-23), but the Bearcats rallied with back-to-back 30-28, 30-26
wins to turn what seemed like a run-away match into a tight contest.

The Bearcats carried the momentum with a 5-1 advantage at the beginning of the fifth-set, but Ramapo rallied back to get the match tied at 15-15.

They clinched the victory with the final two points to improve their record to 15-1 on the regular season. The Bearcats suffered their fourth straight loss to drop to 16-8.

Pablo Oliveira led Baruch with 15 kills, 10 digs and three aces, while Danial Levent and
Eryk Kowalski had 14 kills each.

Matt McKee, a freshman from West Islip High School on Long Island, totaled 12 kills and 10 total blocks in playing a big factor for Baruch in the rally.

Radu Wyrwas was busy again successfully controlling the offense with 52 assists and four kills.

Shane Donohue had a big match for the visitors from Mahwah, New Jersey with 24 kills and 11 digs. Jairo Sierra dished out 51 assists.

The Baruch men’s volleyball team will return to action on Thursday night with a pair of home matches against York College (6:00 pm) and Polytechnic Institute of NYU (8:00 pm).

Ramapo will hit the road again on Thursday with an 8:00 pm Metro Conference match at Bard College.
