#15 Men's Volleyball Begins Conference Schedule By Sweeping CCNY; Matt McKee Named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week

The men's volleyball team swept (30-12, 30-18, 30-18) the Beavers from the City College of New York to record their 10th overall win on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.


The Bearcats (10-4, 1-0 CUNYAC) received a balanced scoring attack with Gabriel Rivera leading the way with seven kills and four aces.

Danial Levent notched a team-high nine kills, while Radu Wyrwas recorded 31 assists. Boris Svirsky and Eryk Kowalski each notched five kills in the opening-season conference win.

Johnson Ho (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) led the Beavers (0-3) with six total kills.

The Bearcats discovered this evening that they have dropped three spots to #15 in the national American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Div. III Coaches Poll. They also dropped one spot to #9 in the regional North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) poll.

The team accolades continued in the weekly conference awards with Matt McKee being named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week. The freshman from West Islip High School averaged 2.75 kills and .083 blocks in helping lead the Bearcats to a 3-2 record for the past week of competition.

McKee recorded 12 kills and three total blocks in the 3-1 loss to #15 Philadelphia Biblical University.

The men's volleyball team, who will be in force at tomorrow night's exciting Battle of Lexington event against CCNY, will return to action on Saturday with CUNYAC multi-matches against Lehman (11:00 am), Medgar Evers (3:00 pm), and the event host York College (5:00 pm).
