With the loss, the visiting Bearcats drop to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in CUNYAC, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in CUNYAC.

Today’s contest, which was played at Brooklyn’s new athletic facility, was a highly anticipated re-match of the 2009 CUNYAC Final.

The visiting Bearcats controlled most of the action early and built a 37-30 halftime lead by shooting 54 percent (15-28) in the opening 20 minutes.

Sean Loftus scored a quick lay up at the start of the second half for their biggest lead at nine points (39-30), but Brooklyn rallied by scoring the next nine points to tie the contest at 39-all.

Play stayed close the rest of the way and featured four more ties until the Bulldogs took over by going on a 10-2 run for a 70-62 lead with six minutes left.

Chris Beauchamp hit a free throw to get Baruch as close as 72-69 with only 1:10 remaining, but Brooklyn connected on four free throws in the final 18 seconds to clinch the victory to stretch their win streak to seven games.

Beauchamp led the Bearcats with 17 points, while George Kunkel recorded a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Tammer Farid and Loftus finished with 12 points each. Farid also hit a three-pointer to tie Scott Holloway for the all-time Baruch men’s career three-point record of 163.

Lionel Hilaire scored 10 points and notched two steals.

Richard Jean Baptiste led the newly nicknamed Bulldogs of Brooklyn College with 23 points and six rebounds.

The men’s basketball team will resume action on Wednesday, January 27, with a 7:30 pm home game against John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
