Bearcats Defeat Hunter Hawks, 1-0

The men’s soccer team knocked off rival Hunter College, 1-0, in a CUNYAC home match on Saturday afternoon at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

With the victory, the Bearcats (6-4-1, 4-2, 12 pts) take over sole possession of first place in the conference standings (3pts for win, 1pt for draw in CUNYAC play). Hunter falls to 4-5-3 overall and 2-1-2 (8 pts) in conference.

The match was a defensive battle all afternoon, but the Bearcats scored the only goal late at the 81:56 mark with Valiantsin Kirykovich beating the goalkeeper from 16-yards out on a through ball assist from Jonas Juozaitis. The goal by Kirykovich was his team-leading fifth goal of the regular season.

Andreas Hansson led the Baruch attack with four total shots, while Juozaitis finished the match with three. Ibek Abdrahmanov, Boris Lipsman and Alvaro Velasquez recorded two shots each.

Overall, Baruch dominated in the shot category (17-9), and kept Hunter goalkeeper Zade Haobsh busy with nine total saves. Michael Murphy finished with three saves for Baruch.

The men’s soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, October 6, with a CUNYAC home match against CCNY. Kick off at the Met Oval is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
