The #4-ranked men’s volleyball team won two conference matches on Saturday at the CUNYAC Multi-Match Event hosted by Hunter College.

The Bearcats (18-2, 8-0 CUNYAC) needed a big rally in the morning match to help avert an upset to rival Hunter College Hawks (10-7, 8-1 CUNYAC).

The visiting Bearcats won the opening set, 30-26, but Hunter won the next two sets (30-27, 30-21) to take a 2-1 lead. The Bearcats won the fourth set (30-19) and the fifth-set tie-breaker (15-9) to record the tough conference victory.

Sequiel Sanchez led the attack with 25 kills (.333) and six digs, while Santos Rivera notched 22 kills (.444). Ivan Andujar dished out 63 assists and Pablo Oliveira finished with 16 kills (.357).

Overall, the Bearcats recorded 76 kills (.371) compared to 64 (.248) by Hunter.

In the second match, the Bearcats swept the Beavers from the City College of New York (5-10, 3-3 CUNYAC) with scores of 30-16, 30-12, 30-22.

George Chave led the balanced scoring attack with seven kills (.375), while Jonathan Tuwaidan dished out a team-high eight assists and six digs.

The Bearcats will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Monday night, February 22, with a 6:00 pm road match at Medgar Evers College (0-10, 0-7 CUNYAC).

Please note this match was previously scheduled to be played on Thursday, February 25, but was moved to this Monday, February 22.
