The #4-ranked men’s volleyball team defeated SUNY-New Paltz on Thursday night. in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats (27-2) captured the victory with scores of 30-26, 23-30, 31-29, and 30-22 to defeat New Paltz (11-12) for the second time this season in four sets.

The Bearcats took control early to win the first set, but New Paltz led from start to finish in the second to cruise to the 30-23 win.

Both teams played a competitive third set and were tied late at 29, but back-to-back kills by Sequiel Sanchez (off Ivan Andujar assists) helped squeeze out the 31-29 win for a 2-1 match advantage.

The fourth set was tightly contested again with Baruch leading 22-19, but they clinched the victory by notching eight of the next 11 points to record the 3-1 match victory.

Pablo Oliveira led the attack again with 18 kills, while Sanchez finished with 16 kills and 20 digs.

Santos Rivera also had another solid match with 13 kills, seven digs and two aces. Carlos DeLeon had a busy night on the defensive end with a team-leading 22 total digs. Andujar totaled 43 assists, 14 digs and two block assists in the victory.

Overall, Baruch totaled 59 kills (.107) compared to 51 (.104) by New Paltz.

Jake Moore led the visitors this evening with 16 kills and eight total digs. Andrew Cassius dished out 45 assists and collected 12 total digs.

The men’s volleyball team will return to action with a CUNYAC road match next Tuesday, March 16, at Lehman College. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
