The men’s basketball team suffered a disappointing 64-62 overtime loss to the Cougars of Medgar Evers College in another exciting CUNYAC home contest played on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena.

For the third time in their last four CUNYAC games, the Bearcats lost by two points or less.

Medgar Evers played this evening with only six available players, but pulled out the victory with their very strong front court presence that outscored the Bearcats, 29-6, in second chance opportunities and 59-37 overall in rebounding.

Rob Goldstein helped send the game into overtime by grabbing a long rebound off his 3-point miss and banking in a shot with 15 seconds left to tie the contest at 56.

During the overtime, the two teams exchanged baskets three times for a tie at 62 with 25 seconds left, but the Cougars were able to break away for the winner after Brian Johnson scored on a fast-break layup with five seconds left for the 64-62 lead.

The Bearcats had the final shot looking for the tie, but could not connect to suffer the disappointing conference loss.

Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson led the Bearcats again with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Mickey Abbatiello and Goldstein finished with 14 points each. Justin Giryluk grabbed nine total rebounds.

Winston Douglas led the Cougars, the defending CUNYAC Champions, with a double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds. Brian Johnson also had a big evening with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The men’s basketball team will return to action on Friday, January 27, with an 8:00 pm CUNYAC contest at York College in Jamaica, New York. To follow the action via live stats, click here.
