Box Score

The men's basketball team averted a last minute comeback by the Cardinals of York College to record a 70-65 victory on Wednesday night in Jamaica, New York.

With the result, the Bearcats improve to 14-6 overall and 10-2 in the CUNYAC. They also stretch their win streak to six games. York drops to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the CUNYAC.

The victory sets the stage on Friday night in the ARC Arena for an exciting 7:30 pm battle between the second place Bearcats and first place Dolphins from the College of Staten Island, which reached the NCAA Sweet 16 last year.

The visiting Bearcats led 33-30 at halftime and started the second half with a 14-5 run to lead 47-35 with just under 15 minutes remaining.

They later led by 13 points (65-52) on a layup by
Brian McMahon with 2:31 left, but York quickly followed with a furious rally with an 11-2 run to turn what appeared like a finished game into just a three point contest (66-63) with 34 seconds left.

Rob Goldstein was fouled on the team's next two possessions and hit four total free throws in the final 28 seconds to seal the victory.

Goldstein led the Bearcats this evening with a career-high 23 points (6-10 fg, 5-6 3fg).
Fuat Yapar scored 11 points and Edward Roscigno had 10 points for the player highs this evening.

McMahon (two blocks) and
Granville Gittens (five rebounds) finished with nine points each.

The bench was a factor again with Baruch scoring 28 points compared to 12 by York.

Tony Vails led York this evening with 19 points.
