The No. 10 ranked men's volleyball team defeated the No. 9 Violets of New York University in four sets in a Top 10 match up on Tuesday evening at the Coles Sports Center in New York City.

The Violets came out on top in the opening set by hitting a torrid .480 for the 25-20 victory.

The Bearcats actually hit their best in that opening set at .273, but despite hitting no better than .208 the rest of the match, they pulled out the road victory with timely hitting and blocks to win the next three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 to improve to 8-3.

The Bearcats appeared at one point to run away in the fourth set with a 10-2 lead, but the Violets slowly chipped away at the deficit and tied it at 16. They never lost their composure and went on to clinch the fourth set win to record the non-conference victory in a match between the two schools separated by three stops on the No. 6 subway line of New York City.

Brady Ambro powered the team with 17 kills, hitting .464, to go along with five digs. Nick Smith was next best with 14 kills and seven digs. Scott Standring dished out 33 assists in the win.

Nick Benson led the hosts with 18 kills (.438), seven digs and two blocks.

The Bearcats will continue their busy schedule this week with an 8:00 pm home match on Thursday in the ARC Arena against the Lightning of Lehman College.
