MBB Holds on to Defeat John Jay 78-70 in Rematch of 2025 CUNYAC Championship

The men's basketball team narrowly defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, 78-70, on Alumni Day in the ARC Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats led by as much as 17 points (47-30) and went into halftime leading 47-32 after shooting 10-of-15 (66.67 percent) from behind-the-arc.

In the second half, after the 13:46 mark, the Bearcats went scoreless for six minutes and 32 seconds that enabled the visiting Bloodhound to get back into the contest.

The Bloodhounds eventually cut the Bearcat lead down to a single point (67-66), but a quick three by Peter Douvres bumped the Bearcats back to a two-possession game (70-66).

The opponents had no choice but to foul, which resulted in six made free-throws in the final 30 seconds of regulation as the Bearcats clinched the 78-70 home victory.

Individual Highs

Nicholas Lam scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 3-of-3 from long range. He also tallied six assists.

Peter Douvres scored 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 6-of-10 from three-point range.

Trevon Coppin registered 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Jack Gordon had a near double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds.

The Bearcats improve to a 6-9 overall record and a 3-1 CUNYAC record.

Their next match up will be a CUNYAC battle against the CCNY Beavers on Wednesday night at home at 7:30 p.m.
