Box Score

The men's basketball team won their fifth game of the season by defeating the Cardinals of York College, 63-58, in a CUNYAC home clash on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.

Tammer Farid scored 16 points and George Kunkel recorded his fourth double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds) of the season to give the Bearcats the important early season home win.

The men have now won three straight games as they improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC standings, while York drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Bearcats never trailed and kept a 6-to-8 point cushion throughout most of the game, but the visiting Cardinals made a second half push to get as close as two points (50-48) on a Marcel Esonwune lay up with 8:56 remaining.

Baruch responded to build the lead back up to 60-50 behind the efforts of George Kunkel, who would score eight of his 15 points during the next seven minutes to help build the 10 point lead with 2:12 left. That was enough of a run to defeat the 2008 ECAC Metro Finalists.

Both teams struggled shooting all evening from the field, but Baruch out-rebounded the Cardinals (48-41) and hit seven total 3-pointers compared to only three by York.

Steven Bader had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Mike Dietz dished out a team-high four assists.

Tammer Farid had 16 points to lead Baruch, including 11 during the first half, and finished defensively with six rebounds.

Ryan Exum led York with 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals in playing all 40 minutes. Marcel Esonwune missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Baruch men’s basketball team will return to action on Monday, December 8, with a 7:30 pm non-conference road game at Rutgers-Newark in Newark, New Jersey.
