Men's Volleyball Splits Two Matches in First Day of Elmira Soaring Eagles Invitational

The men's volleyball team split their two matches on Friday at the Elmira Soaring Eagles Invitational in Elmira, New York.

The visiting Bearcats started with a win in four sets by defeating SUNY-Poly with scores of 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.


Chris Kaimis led the effort and comeback with 12 kills, hitting .455, to go along with three blocks. Nick Smith had 11 kills (.500), Braden Carter 10 kills (.571) and Brian Coniglio 40 assists for the neutral court win.

In the second match against No. 11 ranked Elmira, the Bearcats lost to the weekend hosts in five tough sets with scores of 26-28, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 12-15.

Kaimis had another big match with 19 kills, hitting .325, with eight digs. Smith collected another 17 kills (.351) and Coniglio dished out 41 assists (81 total today) in the disappointing loss.


Taylor Higgs finished with 16 digs.

The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow in Elmira with an 11:00 am match against D'Youville College, followed by a 1:30pm match against No. 7 ranked Nazareth College.
